As the new Chairman of Solihull u3a in 2026, I would like to extend a warm welcome to everyone, both long time and new members.
Although I spent my younger years in Solihull, most of my married life I lived in the south east in Hertfordshire. Harpenden, my final home, is a town just 25 miles north of London and, after nearly 40 years there, I finally came home with my husband in 2017 where we have spent the last nine years happily attending Solihull u3a meetings.
Why Solihull u3a? I have a longstanding history with this group. My mother was a founder member and I was fortunate enough to know a few of the many friends she made during the time spent with them at the meetings.
So I have come full circle - I now enjoy spending time with the many friends I have made and listening to varied and interesting talks.
The members of Solihull u3a are an extremely friendly group, always warmly greeting new members to our weekly Monday morning meetings.
It is both a great pleasure and a great honour to be Chairman of such a vibrant and friendly group.

As chair of Solihull U3A from March 2024 until February 2026, I would like to extend a warm welcome to everyone.
After retiring from teaching, I knew I still needed to be busy, to learn, to make new friends and so I began to search for a group to join. I came across Solihull U3A and thank goodness I did! I joined this U3A for several reasons: it had a thriving book club and I love reading, it was central in Solihull which meant I could walk to it and finally, after a few visits, I realised how friendly, welcoming and warm the people here were.
I am proud to be part of this U3A. When I was elected chair of this group, I knew we would go from strength to strength with a supportive committee and members who are curious, eager to learn and love life. I would like to register my thanks to everyone in our U3A, you make every meeting a pleasure to attend and your enthusiasm never ceases to amaze me!
